Amirov Dance Theater presents CITIZENS OF HERE AND ELSEWHERE, an evening of origin, identity, culture, and dance. Capturing Artistic Director and Choreographer Alexandra Amirov’s distinct ability to juxtapose humor and tragedy side-by-side, each evening performance will explore the echo of cultural origins in molding our identity and feature the company’s newest piece, The Coop, an autobiographical work inspired by choreographer Alexandra Amirov’s personal story of emigration from the Soviet Union to Israel.

Alexandra Amirov was born in the Caucasus Mountains of Russia and moved to Israel at 5 years old. At 18, Amirov immigrated to America and has since set roots in NYC. In 2013, Alexandra founded Amirov Dance Theater. Through highly conceptual live and film work, ADT embodies the influences of culture, religion, and societal norms to contemplate human complexity and the fluidity of self. ADT has been presented at Ailey Citigroup Theater, Dixon Place, Wassiac Project, Movement Research, Green Space, Gowanus Arts Center, Sheen Center, The Tank, Hudson Guild Theater, La MaMa, and featured in festivals across America and Europe.

POP: Performance Opportunity Project provides the dance community with space, support, and subsidized space for showings and performances.
