Workshop Description:
Join Rupert Tookey, Gibney Company Guest Artist, for a special four-hour workshop diving into Silent Tides by celebrated choreographer and Artistic Director of Ballet BC, Medhi Walerski. The session begins with a ballet class preparing dancers for the dynamic physicality and nuance of Walerski’s movement language. Participants will then immerse themselves in sections of Silent Tides, exploring the work’s rich vocabulary, musical sensitivity, and emotional depth.

Teacher Bio – Rupert Tookey:
Rupert Tookey is a former dancer with Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and Nederlands Dans Theater, where he worked with leading choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Marco Goecke, Crystal Pite, Hofesh Schechter, Hans van Manen and Ohad Naharin. After his performing
career, he became Artistic Producer and Curator at NDT and went on to work internationally staging the works of Medhi Walerski, Sol Loen and Paul Lightfoot.
Holding a Master’s degree in Arts and Cultural Management, Rupert has continued to shape the international dance landscape in senior roles, including Interim Managing Director and Director of Artistic Operations at Ballet BC. His work bridges performance and production, combining artistic vision with organizational insight to foster collaboration and innovation in contemporary dance.
