PETER DIMURO/PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF MOTION
SIGNIFICANT OTHERS: DANCES FOR FAMILY, FRIENDS & LOVERS

TICKETS: $15 IN ADVANCE, $20 AT THE DOOR

Significant Others: Dances for Family, Friends & Lovers showcases the company and guest choreographers in a series of dances about our nuanced relationships over time. With references that weave in and out of history, starting with Stonewall and ping-ponging through the decades to present day, we see family and those closest to us shift and change, as we do as well—as if imagining our life’s relationships unfolding in some postmodern cabaret.

Boston-based Peter DiMuro/Public Displays of Motion creates dance and dance/theatre, translating the human and humane within everyday lives into performance. The company of dancer/collaborators is adept in multiple movement techniques and spans an age-range of six decades. Guests collaborators are often engaged, and include professional and community dancers with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities, embedding in the work an authentic power. Peter DiMuro has developed performances worldwide, on his own and through his years as artistic director of Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, including the national tours of intergenerational gay-themed work, “Gumdrops & the Funny Uncle” and “Near/Far/In/Out”.

POP: PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY PROJECT

POP provides the dance community with increased support for showings and performances.

POP enables dance artists to self-produce performances and showings at Gibney through a curated rental process. Artists can participate in POP through Performances, Showings, or Open Rehearsals. POP Performances offer a three-night run in The Theater (Studio H) at 280 Broadway. POP Showings & Open Rehearsals are more informal showings in our studios.
