A series of pop-up fundraising workshops in collaboration with Gibney.

Improvisation as Technique

This pop-up series investigates defining Technique as a progressive understanding of coordination, paired with but not exclusively governed by form. Through reorientation with essential motor functions(ex. flexing, extending, opposing, rotating, swinging, shifting weight, falling) we will practice increasing our capacity for observing what is happening and then shaping responses to the motivations leading our physical bodies in space.

About Jermaine Spivey

Jermaine Maurice Spivey is an award winning dancer and interdisciplinary artist who has spent his career performing, teaching and staging works internationally by creators such as Crystal Pite, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Hofesh Shecter, William Forsythe and Swedish musician Robyn to name a few. As a choreographer, his commissions include Rambert 2, LA Dance Project as well as two full-length works created and performed in collaboration with partner Spenser Theberge.

About SpringboardX Pop-Up Series

Slip into the universes of seven unique artists who are navigating and transforming the fabric of our field. The series of 2-hour pop-up workshops offers an opportunity to broaden your perspective through physical exploration and open dialogue.

Held virtually, each 2-hour pop-up will include a warm-up, repertoire or exploration, and a meet-the-artist talk. Springboard Artistic Director Alexandra Wells and members of the creative core team are excited to observe the workshops.
