Dani Cole is a NYC-based dancer with ECHOensemble and founder/choreographer of the “artivist” movement collective Mobilized Voices/M O B I V. She was a guest artist with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company for their APAP showing at the Park Avenue Armory in January 2019. Dani has performed in dance works by Michael Thomas (Alvin Ailey), Alessio Silvestrin (Frankfurt Ballet), Jim Cooney, jill sigman/thinkdance, and Jessica DiMauro. In addition, Dani is a dance/human rights major at Marymount Manhattan College, studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, completed a fellowship with Gibney, and was a member of the inaugural Body Politic cohort facilitated by Jill Sigman.
As a choreographer and collaborator, Dani is interested in body politics and the interdisciplinary, researching the intersections of choreographic frameworks and socio-political structures that are ripe with potentiality – her solo and group work has been shared at the 92nd St. Y, Actor’s Fund Arts Center, Bridge for Dance, TADA! Theater, Access Theater, Emelin Theatre, and Marymount Manhattan College. In summer 2018, Dani held a choreographic residency at the San Francisco Conservatory of Dance. She has traveled to South Africa to meet with fellow student activists in advocacy for the decolonization of education and is an ambassador for the Foundation for Holocaust Education Projects. As a certified yoga instructor and somatic practitioner, Dani conducts self-created movement+connection workshops encouraging any and all bodies to unlock innovation through improvisation and to move consciously with others. Dani began at Gibney as an intern in August 2017 and is ecstatic to further her role in the community as the Curatorial Associate! email@example.com
