Jim Hwang is an accomplished institutional investor who transitioned from traditional finance to digital assets and is now the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Firinne Capital, a New York–based digital asset management firm. Over the course of his career, Jim has researched and implemented quantitative strategies and total portfolio design at leading global institutions including CPP Investments, Bosera Asset Management, and Barclays Global Investors (later BlackRock). His work has spanned Canada, Hong Kong/China, and the United States, giving him a uniquely international perspective on global markets and capital allocation. From 2014 to 2020, he was Managing Director of Capital Markets and Factor Investing at CPP Investments, where he oversaw complex investment strategies for one of the world’s largest pension funds. Earlier in his career, he advanced research and strategy design at Bosera Asset Management in Hong Kong/China, and at Barclays Global Investors in the U.S. Jim holds an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.S. in Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also a CFA Charterholder. His expertise includes digital asset management, quantitative investment strategies, portfolio design, and both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. Jim joined Gibney’s Board of Directors in 2025.
