Raised in the South Bronx, Kar’mel Antonyo Wade Small started his dance journey with American and International Ballroom for ten years. With this experience, he went on to begin his formal training at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School. Now, as a graduate of SUNY Purchase College with a BFA in Dance Performance and Composition, he aspires to continue being a versatile artist that speaks with the influence of his Afro-Latino background for his community. Piloting his own dance initiative, KAWS the Movement Collective, he desires to showcase an involvement with those interested to fuse acrobatic, ballroom, contact, and improvisational styles of movement, as well as other mediums of art. Kar’mel was featured in HBO’s Random Acts of Flyness, and has performed works by Damani Pompey, Beatrice Capote, Michelle Thompson Ulerich, Fukiko Takase, Sidra Bell, Roderick George, Nathan Trice, Kimberly Bartosik, Jerome Robbins, Eleo Pomare, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Kevin Wynn, and Ohad Naharin.
