Originally from Colorado, Mattie McGarey graduated Magna cum Laude from the University of Colorado Boulder, earning a BFA in Dance and a BA in Philosophy. She has had the opportunity to train and collaborate with renowned dance professionals such as Rennie Harris, Helanius J. Wilkins, Gesel Mason, and Michelle Ellsworth. In 2018 she was accepted to a summer study in Ga’aton, Israel with the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company where she trained intensely in Gaga, ballet, and contemporary under the direction of Yamit Kalef, Denise Peri, Oryan Yohanan, and Sharon Vaisvaser, among others. Mattie has created work for the American College Dance Association, Global Water Dances, Boulder Opera Company, and Denver Diggs Deeper. She is a member of the Moraporvida Contemporary Dance Company and apprentices with esteemed hip-hop choreographer Rennie Harris for his Denver-based company, Rennie Harris Grass Roots Project.
