Regine Pieters

Pieters was born and raised on a small island in the Caribbean called Curaçao. She started dancing when she was four years old and hasn’t stopped dancing ever since. In 2014 Pieters got accepted into the Belhaven University dance program, where she recently completed her undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. Throughout her years at Belhaven, Pieters’ got to work with modern and contemporary choreographers like Elizabeth Dishman, Vincent Hardy, Marc Wayne, and Sung Yong Kim. She performed Sung Yong Kim’s piece I Am Not a Plastic at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC for the American College Dance Association’s national festival. Pieters’ also grew a passion for Contact Improvisation in college, and was fortunate to personally work with Nancy Stark Smith. After being exposed to composition and choreography classes in her sophomore and junior year, Pieters felt called to pursue choreography in her professional career. This year Djis Mi Mes, her latest work, was performed in the Gala Concert at the American Dance College Assiciation conference. Pieters aims to continue inspiring and empowering dancers in the professional dance industry through her choreography.
