Plan Your Visit & COVID-19 Policies

Gibney has developed thorough operations and safety plans for reopening amid the COVID-19 pandemic. These plans are forward-thinking and flexible, incorporating all the knowledge and resources made available to us by the State of New York, the CDC, WHO, and the guidance of experts in the fields of medicine, operations, HVAC, and sanitation.

Status as of May 5, 2021

890 Broadway reopened on Monday, April 5. Studio capacities vary from 1 to 14 people (33% capacity) for rehearsals, classes, and workshop rentals, and 2 to 20 people (50% capacity) for photoshoots and filming. 

Available to book now, 280 Broadway reopens on Monday, May 17. Studio capacities vary from 2 to 21 people (33% capacity) for rehearsals, classes, and workshop rentals, and 3 to 32 people (50% capacity) for photoshoots and filming.

Limited in-person classes resumed at 33% capacity on May 3, 2021 at Gibney’s 890 Broadway location. Please visit our class schedule for details.

To support the dance field’s re-entry to the studio, all non-profit rehearsal rentals will be available for $10/hour for all space requests received by May 28, 2021. To support artists getting back into class, all in-person classes will be FREE until June 30, 2021.

SAFETY

Community Safety Agreements

All Gibney staff members will adhere to the below agreements, and we ask that all visitors to the Centers do the same:

  • WEAR A MASK: All visitors must wear masks or facial coverings that cover your mouth and nose at all times
  • TRACK YOUR SYMPTOMS & EXPOSURE: Do not visit Gibney if you have a fever or do not feel well, have traveled internationally in the past 14 days, have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the past 14 days, or have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
  • SIGN IN: All visitors must sign in and complete a health screening survey via the Sign-In App Companion to gain entry to the building. Details are available below.
  • REDUCE CROWDING: Do not arrive any earlier than 10 minutes prior to your rental, class, or event start time. Follow all studio capacity restrictions put in place for safety.
  • KEEP YOUR DISTANCE: Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet between yourself and others and follow directional markers and safety signage throughout the space.
  • WASH YOUR HANDS: Wash your hands frequently with soap, or use hand sanitizer. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • STOP THE SPREAD: In addition to wearing a mask or facial covering at all times, cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, an elbow, or your shoulder. Please refrain from eating in the building.
  • BE KIND: We are all in this together. Thank you for adhering to these agreements and being respectful of Gibney staff and other visitors to the Center.

Visitors who do not adhere to these policies will be asked to leave the space.

How Gibney is Keeping You Safe

Gibney is taking numerous precautions to keep you safe, including:

  • Bringing in fresh air through upgraded MERV-13 HVAC filters, supplemental air intake fans, air purifiers, and other recommended air quality interventions.
  • Instituting and enforcing the above Community Agreements.
  • Offering touchless sign-in, sneeze guards at all registration desks, and limited seating in common areas to reduce contact and crowding.
  • Providing informational signage with safety protocols and social distancing reminders.
  • Taking temperatures via wall-affixed readers and having all guests complete a health screening upon entering the building.
  • Limiting on-site staff to necessary, essential workers only and providing them with health, safety, COVID-19, and de-escalation training.
  • Providing hand sanitizing stations throughout the space and gloves and masks upon request.
  • Continuously disinfecting studios and common areas and providing cleaning supplies in every studio.

Gibney has minimized the number of on-site staff to reduce our risk. All Gibney staff members will have Personal Protective Equipment (“PPE”) appropriate for their work and practice frequent hand washing. Additionally, all on-site staff members are tested for COVID-19 every two weeks, or more frequently as requested by Facilities or Human Resources. What to Expect When You Arrive

Sign-In App

To gain entry into the building, all visitors are required to sign in each day via Sign In App Companion and complete a health screening survey.

On your first time visiting our centers and using the Sign In App Companion at Gibney, you will use the camera on your smartphone to scan the QR code on the onsite iPad in the Gibney lobby to sign in and download the app.

While it is not required to download the app to sign in, it is recommended for a faster sign in process when you return to the centers again for future visits. Downloading the app will create a personal account and prevent you from needing to scan the QR code each time you visit Gibney.

The survey will ask you the following questions:

  • Have you knowingly been in close or proximate contact in the past 14 days with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or who has had symptoms of COVID-19?
  • Have you tested Positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
  • Have you experienced symptoms of COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
  • Have you traveled outside the state or country to any of the states or countries listed on the NYS or federal travel advisory list for COVID-19 high risk?

Your information is kept confidential and only released to the state agency in charge of contact tracing, as needed.

  • Hand sanitizer stations and sanitizing wipes will be available throughout the studios and common areas.
  • To exit the building, please use the elevator (2-person maximum) or Stairwell C (located beside the vending machines).
  • All rentals should be booked using our online portal to enable us to offer a contactless check-in experience.

  • Enter at 53A Chambers Street and complete your temperature scan (temperature scanners will be located on the wall). If your temperature is 100.4F or higher, Gibney staff will help you arrange travel home, recommend seeing a doctor, and refund or credit your rental fees.

What is COVID-19?

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is defined as illness caused by a novel coronavirus now called severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2; formerly called 2019-nCoV), which was first identified amid an outbreak of respiratory illness cases in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. It was initially reported to the WHO on December 31, 2019. On January 30, 2020, the WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global health emergency.   On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic. There are vaccines for COVID-19 which are in the process of being distributed. To schedule an appointment in New York State, you can call the New York State Vaccination Hotline at 1-833-NYS-4VAX (1-833-697-4829).

What is Gibney doing to keep staff and visitors safe?

General Safety Measures:

  • All guests are required to use our no-contact sign-in app and questionnaire prior to their arrival.
  • Face coverings must be worn by everyone in the centers unless the core activity of the work requires. Masks and gloves are available upon request.
  • Everyone is encouraged to wash their hands with hot water and soap regularly for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer and hand washing stations are readily available.
  • Social distancing is encouraged, and all space capacities are limited to optimize air quality.
  • Spaces are cleaned and disinfected as per CDC guidelines.
  • Interventions have been made to increase fresh air flow and improve air quality.
  • Non-essential Gibney staff members will continue to work remotely.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting communal areas and workspaces using CDC guidelines.
  • Upgraded MERV-13 HVAC filters and other air quality interventions.

Management and Communications Measures:

  • Gibney will regularly communicate information and updates via the website, emails, and signage.
  • Gibney has trained staff on new policies and health and safety procedures.
  • Gibney has implemented flexible sick leave policies.
  • Gibney has adjusted class and rental times to limit the number of people during the check-in process.
  • Gibney has adjusted studio occupancies and class sizes in accordance with State and CDC guidelines.
  • Gibney has posted signage explaining policies and procedures.
What precautions do I need to take if I am traveling?

For State or Local Travel:

  • As of April 1, domestic travelers will no longer be required to quarantine after entering New York from another U.S. State or U. S. Territory.

For International Travel:

  • For Staff: Staff must stay home and self-quarantine for a full 14 days after travel.
  • For Gibney Teachers, Visiting Artists, Visitors & Renters: After traveling internationally, self-quarantine for 14 days.
How do I find the most up to date information?

Online:

  • General information regarding visiting Gibney will reside on this page along with any new rules and policies around COVID-19. A date at the top of the page will indicate when the information was last updated.
  • All visitors will be reminded of health rules and expectations regularly via email and other points of contact prior to any onsite activity.
  • Gibney’s social media will offer consistent information and updates around new information.

At the Centers:

  • Your Gibney contact and any onsite staff members can reference health and safety rules, and answer questions around policies and procedures.
  • The Gibney COVID-19 Safety plan will be posted conspicuously in the space along with directional signage.
What are the policies and procedures for Visitors & Renters?

What do I need to do in advance of my studio rental or visit?
  • Please plan not to arrive any earlier than 10 minutes prior to your rental, class, or event.
  • A few days prior to your rental, you will receive an email from Gibney’s Rental Team with important COVID-19 protocols and updates. Please review all information in detail prior to arriving onsite and reach out to rentals@gibneydance.org with any questions you may have.
  • Note that you will be required to provide a valid photo ID to show the guard at the door.
What happens when I arrive at the Center?

At Gibney 890 Broadway:

Can I take off my mask if I am in a studio with all vaccinated people?

No. This is not allowed in all NYS Gyms and Fitness centers. For more information on COVID-19 vaccines, please visit the CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/index.html

Can I meet with a group at Gibney earlier than my class/rental or after my class/rental?

There is no lingering allowed in the common areas for more than 5 minutes. To allow for air turnover in the studios and cleaning in between rentals, everyone must leave the studio as soon as the class/rental time is over. Please do not arrive at the studio any more than 5 minutes in advance of your rental.

What do I do if I believe I have COVID-19?

Visitors and renters should notify their Gibney point of contact and must stay home if they have symptoms of COVID-19.

If a visitor and/or renter exhibits symptoms of COVID-19 upon arrival, or becomes sick during their time onsite, they must be isolated and sent home.

If you believe you have been in contact with someone with COVID-19, inform your Gibney point of contact, and self-isolate for 14 days.

People with symptoms of COVID-19 as per the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/disposition-in-home-patients.html) are encouraged to get tested and self-isolate. People may discontinue isolation under the following conditions: At least 14 days have passed since symptom onset or if you have received two negative test results, at least 24 hours have passed since the resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications, and other symptoms have improved.

What happens if there is a confirmed case of COVID-19?

If a visitor and/or renter is confirmed to be infected with COVID-19, inform your Gibney point of contact immediately. Gibney will determine what areas of the venue were visited or used by the infected visitor and/or renter and whether they were within six feet of others.

Gibney will provide for the cleaning and disinfection of exposed areas in the event an individual is confirmed to have a positive case of COVID-19 as per CDC guidelines on “Cleaning and Disinfecting Your Facility” if someone is suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19.

Do I need to get tested?

Testing is not required for visitors and renters, though you and any members of your group should stay home and get tested if you do not feel well or are experiencing any COVID-19 related symptoms.

Are COVID-19 vaccines required for entry to the center?

We encourage everyone to get the vaccine when they are eligible under the applicable guidelines. The vaccine is not required for entry at this time, but this is subject to change.
