Gibney 280 Broadway (Studio C)

Class Description

In leading this class, I will draw from my background in athletics, exercise science/somatics, contact, and release-based techniques to play with the kinesthetic processing of curiosity, connection, and internal/external rhythm. We will use imagery rooted in anatomical truths and creative ingenuity. Through floorwork, falling, and finding the upside down, I will offer cues to facilitate alignment, functionality, directional switches, and rhythmic irregularity. Open to all movers.

And, catch the world premiere of Falcon Dance’s Beauty Happens at Gibney June 8-10.

Biography

Brit Falcon (she/her) is a performer, director/choreographer/maker, bodyworker, and educator. Since 2013, her project based group, Falcon Dance, has produced over eight evenings of work, curated two concerts, and is a 2023 Gibney Presents AIR. They have been awarded The Floor’s winter/spring 2019 artist-in-residence, The Brockport Summer Dance 2018 guest artist, the New Dance Collective 2018 guest artist, the Bates Dance Festival 2017 Emerging Choreographer, and the NYU Gallatin 2017 DCA artist-in-residence. Brit’s formative training in athletics, somatics, release technique, contact improvisation, ballet, tap, and street dance styles all inform her ongoing studies in contemporary dance. Brit has had the pleasure of performing with William Evans, Kista Tucker Dance, Inc., Steeledance, Bryan Baira, Donnell Oakley, Renegade Performance Group, Keith Johnson & Adriane Fang, Kendra Portier, Keith Thompson, and David Dorfman Dance. She has been a guest artist at The University of Hartford, Oregon University, Idaho State, Nazareth College, Brockport College, New York University, Bates College, Gibney Dance Center, Mark Morris Dance Center, Freeskewl, and Performática (Mexico). Additionally, Brit is a Licensed Massage Therapist and personal trainer who holds a B.F.A. in Dance from The College at Brockport, having graduated with honors and was an Academic All-American for athletic achievement in the Women’s Triple Jump. She is currently an M.F.A. Candidate in Dance at The University of Maryland, College Park.

In Brit’s work she examines the possibilities for healing, world building, and empathic intelligence through movement. She views each project as merely a marker in time, within a never-ending process of learning, growing, and becoming. Her work emphasizes connection and mindfully, yet unexpectedly, pushes the edges of physicality. Each process delves into the intersections of science, ecology, surrealism, and psychology.
