In a work part improvised, part choreographed, part movement, part dialogue, Sigman tackles the difficult questions. Without trying to find solutions, agreement, or even closure, she brings together a group of fascinating dancers with diverse histories to explore the predicaments of this volatile moment. As a micro “body politic” they process questions around inflammation and healing, defense and protection, identity and assumption, contamination, epigenetics, and where we are headed. Their movement explorations have been informed by conversations with practitioners working in racial pharmacology, forest fire, trauma psychology, medicine, domestic violence, and multiple spiritual traditions.

Performers include Lorene Bouboushian, iele paloumpis, Evelyn Sanchez Narvaez, Jill Sigman, Charmaine Warren, Krishna Washburn, and Marýa Wethers, with special guests Marielys Burgos Melendez, Malaika Cambridge, Dani Cole, Donna Costello, Kayla Hamilton, Nicole Loeffler-Gladstone, Lindsay Londs Reuter, Stacy Lynn Smith, Patricia Solorzano, Kimberly Tate, and Kayva Yang. Live music by Kristin Norderval and Cristian Amigo.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jill Sigman is a Brooklyn-born movement artist and agent of change who works at the intersection of dance, visual installation, and social practice. Sigman has been a Creative Campus Fellow at Wesleyan, a Choreographic Fellow at MANCC, a Community Action Artist in Residence at Gibney, a NYFA Fellowship recipient, and an Artist-in-Residence at NYU, Movement Research, The Dance Exchange, Guapamacataro, Rauschenberg Residency, and others. She has worked with Marina Abramović and Ze’eva Cohen Chamber Projects. Sigman has taught in the Open Arts Program at NYU Tisch, is the author of Ten Huts, and holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Princeton.
