Gibney is thrilled to host OBOC for a second time! In collaboration with our partner, Countertechnique, we’re presenting the OBOC in New York City from 13-24 June. OBOC NYC 2023 takes place in the spacious studios at 890 Broadway (Union Square), and only offers spots up to 62 participants.

The OBOC Intensive has been designed for professional dancers and advanced dance students interested in pursuing a long, healthy and successful career in dance. Working for ten full days with Countertechnique Founder and former Chunky Move Artistic Director Anouk van Dijk, Senior Teachers Countertechnique Jenia Kasatkina and Joy Davis, Teacher Countertechnique Rosanna Tavarez and Alexander Technique expert Tom Koch, the OBOC offers a wealth of information and lots of lush dancing, to both first time and returning participants. Through physical practice, theory, discourse and creative workshops, participants will gain a set of practical tools that they will be able to draw from and apply in their daily dance practice and through performance seasons.

About Countertechnique

Countertechnique provides tools for body and mind to deal with the demanding dance practice of the 21st century. It is a movement system to help the dancer think about the dancing body, focusing on the process of incorporating information into action. Within a clear structure of exercises, the Countertechnique class thoroughly prepares the body for rehearsal and performance, enabling dancers to move bigger, more fluidly and more spatially, while becoming stronger and more flexible.
