POP: Then until Now: Vicki Angel, Eric Barsness, & Carol Clements in Concert

Then until Now offers a look at a forty-year choreographic span, with past and present juxtaposed in the bodies of three “mature” dancers. Angel, Barsness, and Clements resurrect solos from the 1980s and make new dances, too. A surprise comic trio is the finale. Out with the new and in with the old!

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Vicki Angel, Eric Barsness, and Carol Clements share a background in the 1980s downtown Manhattan dance scene, at the juncture of avant-garde, postmodern dance and the theatrical experimentation of performance art. Their works were produced by leading venues of the day such as Dance Theater Workshop, The Kitchen, Danspace, LaMama, and PS122, as well as by grittier hotspots such as 8BC and a host of downtown loft spaces. The three choreographers join forces 40 years later to present Then until Now at Gibney. There they will juxtapose old and new work, the physicality and creativity of past alongside the present—and feature the performance of both, in the now.

All attendees will be required to adhere to Gibney’s COVID-19 safety policies. Audience members will be required to provide proof of full vaccination and to wear masks/face coverings at all times. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted at this time.

ABOUT POP: PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY PROJECT

POP provides the dance community with increased support for showings and performances.

POP enables dance artists to self-produce performances and showings at Gibney through a curated rental process. Artists can participate in POP through Performances, Showings, or Open Rehearsals. POP Performances offer a three-night run in The Theater (Studio H) at 280 Broadway. POP Showings & Open Rehearsals are more informal showings in our studios.
