Quantum Flux: A Creative Process with Carlos Kerr Jr.
Oct 15, 2022, 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm EDT
$50
A safe space and meditative atmosphere, this workshop is a snapshot of a creative process during the development of a new work, where everyone is treated as an independent artist part of a collective.
The workshop commences with a contemporary class entitled Quantum Flux, a movement practice seeking an innate awareness of the body’s inner and outside ‘edges’ by incorporating different images and modes of resistance.
Articulating the joints and stimulating neuromuscular connections create fluidity and articulation throughout the space, starting with tuning into the senses to find an infinite range of motion and articulation throughout the body.
The warmup leads into a structured improvisation improv meant to engage the mind and stimulate the imagination while challenging one’s habitual perception of movement. This guided process aims to explore various tasks, dynamics, and textures of movement, vulnerability, and surrender of the musculoskeletal system. Gradually, improvisation becomes creative research.
The most essential element in research is asking the right questions. How and why? Driven by sensation and the simplicity of cause and effect, we will engage various regions of the body with magnetic, elastic, and precise physical movement, seeking to make possible, seemingly impossible choices and interruptions. By acknowledging our habits, we can refine our awareness of designing the space, becoming spatial architects rather than reproducing movement. Wrapping up with a summary of all work sculpted and carved through the time shared.
