SpringboardX presents its fifth annual fall fundraising workshop in collaboration with Gibney. Join us in the studio for two full-day workshops with three dance-theater creators. An intimate panel discussion will be held between the artists & participants on Sunday evening at 7pm EDT, moderated by Troy Ogilvie.

The two all-day workshops will take place  in person at Gibney 280 Broadway. To uphold our collective safety and align with the New York City mandate for all gyms, performance venues, and indoor dining establishments, Gibney will require proof of full vaccination beginning on Tuesday, September 7th. ABOUT LAJA FIELD

Laja Field’s (she/her) passion for live performance is rooted in relatable, nonlinear storytelling that evokes the power of imagination and fosters connections across communities. After eight years of touring, creating and teaching around the globe, Laja relocated back home to Salt Lake City, Utah. Since her 2019 return, Laja aimes her effort towards local youth as a paraprofessional in dance at West High School. Her company LAJAMARTIN, comprised of Laja Field and Martin Durov, continues to pursue all creative endeavors in performance and education of physical dance theatre. For more visit lajamartin.com

ABOUT RAJA FEATHER KELLY

Raja Feather Kelly is a choreographer, a director, and the artistic director of the feath3r theory. He is a three-time Princess Grace Award winner (2017, 2018, 2019), two-time Lucille Lortel Award nominee (2019, 2020), and 2019 Chita Rivera Award nominee. In 2020 he was the Obie Award winner and Outer Critics Circle Award honoree for choreography for the Pulitzer-winning musical A Strange Loop. In 2019 he was an SDCF Joe A. Callaway Award finalist for both A Strange Loop and the Pulitzer-winning play Fairview. Raja is also the 2019–2020 Randjelović/Stryker Resident Commissioned Artist at New York Live Arts, an inaugural Jerome Hill Artist Fellow, and a 2019 Creative Capital award recipient. He is a current fellow of HERE Arts, the Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU, and a Creative Associate at The Juilliard School. Over the past decade, Kelly has created fifteen evening-length premieres with his company the feath3r theory as well as directing and choreographing extensively for Off-Broadway theatre in New York City. His choreography has also garnered a 2018 Breakout Award from the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) and the Solange MacArthur Award for New Choreography (2016), and he was Dance Magazine’s inaugural Harkness Promise Award (2018). He was born in Fort Hood, Texas and holds a B.A. in Dance and English from Connecticut College.

ABOUT  johannes wieland

 johannes wieland hails from berlin, earned his bfa at the amsterdam university of the arts, and worked in various companies with an extensive array of choreographers before going to perform as a principal at the béjart ballet lausanne. ready for a radical change, he then relocated to new york city where he received his mfa in contemporary dance and choreography at nyu’s tisch school of the arts in 2002. his company johannes wieland, founded in new york that same year, facilitated the foundation for his body of work. he held a permanent position as the artistic director and choreographer at the staatstheater kassel from 2006 – 2021. aside from choreographing and teaching for companies and universities his critically acclaimed pieces have been invited to tour internationally for festivals and events. johannes is also co-directing and curating the b12 festival for contemporary dance and performance art (www.b12.space), which runs annually in berlin. he is a 1st prize winner of the kurt jooss prize, and has been awarded numerous other prizes, recognitions, scholarships, and grants. johannes is a nominee for the german theater prize der faust in 2016 for his creation you will be removed.

the invincible loser. improvisation with movement/theatricality. i am a loser, and you, you’re a loser too. then along comes this day. it makes you invincible. but you’re still a loser. the only thing left to do is to go online to participate in a workshop with first-rate-loser johannes wieland. be prepared for physical and mental exhaustion, being turned inside out and upside down with improvisation, movement and theatricality.
