She studied at Gibney in New York and completed the Choreographic Studies Program for one year. She has shown her own work at Movement Research at Judson Church in 2022. She belonged to the Kurosawa Mika & dancers, a dance company from 2007 to 2017. She has received the 2017 New Choreography Award, Contemporary Dance Association of Japan.
About Maria Angela Talavera Tejeda
Dance artist born and raised in Peru. In 2016, Maria Angela obtained a BA in Audiovisual Communication and in addition to that, she works as a writer and as a certified holistic companion specializing in Reiki and “Bioneuroemocion”.
Her creative process focuses on an interdisciplinary integration between the fields she works with. Based on the search for internal movement, starting from allowing the body to speak and communicate and using the exploration of repetition as a tool to go beyond what is already known or evident. Is about connecting with intuition to find deeper internal layers within us. She also uses writing as a starting point to find the narrative skeleton of the piece.
She currently lives in New York seeking to expand her career as a choreographer and performer. She is the founder and member, along with six other Peruvian women of the dance company Una Hebra.
The Gibney Professional Training Program and International Visa Training Program offers students from across the world the opportunity to train full time at Gibney, New York City’s premiere destination for contemporary dance. Training Students at Gibney have the opportunity to train with NYC’s foremost dance educators, gain practical skills toward building a sustainable career in the arts, and join a network of incredible dance artists. Each Training Student in the Choreographic Process Track spends six to twelve months creating and producing an original work, culminating in a final performance in The Theater at Gibney.
COVID-19 SAFETY POLICIES
To promote everyone’s health and safety, we are requiring that all eligible audience members provide proof of a COVID-19 booster as of February 1, 2022.
Booster eligibility as defined by the CDC can be found here. If you are not yet eligible, we still require full vaccination, meaning two (2) weeks have passed since your second shot of a two-dose vaccine or your single shot of a one-dose vaccine. A recent COVID-19 infection does not exempt you from the booster requirement.
Upon arrival to Gibney Center for a performance, audience members will need their vaccination proof (including evidence of a booster, if eligible), a photo ID, and their tickets. Children under 17 will not need a photo ID, as long as they’re accompanied by an adult. Children under five will not be admitted.
Please email covidsafety@gibneydance.org with any questions. Thank you.
