Groovy Martin (They/Them) is a Boston born dancer, educator, and choreographer now based in Brooklyn, NY. They started their training studying ballet with Boston Ballet and modern/contemporary at Boston Arts Academy, before being invited to study with the School of American Ballet at 17. Groovy has danced works choreographed by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, William Forsythe, Dwight Rhoden and many more. Along with their studies at Fordham University, Groovy followed their education by joining the Sarasota ballet company in 2020, and moved back to New York in 2022 to pursue freelance choreography and other career endeavors. Since then, they’ve become a teacher, fitness instructor, stagehand technician, queer activist and show producer. They’ve also built a name for themselves in New York’s queer nightlife community as a drag artists/entertainer, under the alias Groovy Bluez. They’ve produced their own shows at various venues across the city, including All Night Skate and 3 Dollar Bill, the largest queer event space in Brooklyn. They continue to forge and foster new spaces for queer arts alike to express storytelling through movement, as well as uplift the community in any way possible.
