Michelle Elliott (she/her) is both a Development professional and a musical theatre bookwriter and lyricist. She has been a grant writer and Institutional Giving Director and Manager at several large arts organizations throughout her 20+ year career, including The New 42nd Street/New Victory Theater and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. As an artist herself, Michelle enjoys writing proposals in support of artists and making their work be understood by grant panelists.
Michelle has written seven musicals with her long-time collaborator, Danny Larsen, including CLOAKED, for which she was the recipient of the Kleban Prize for Most Promising Librettist. Michelle and Danny also received a Jonathan Larson Award for CLOAKED. Michelle is currently collaborating with Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls on an original musical inspired by Emily’s song, “Country Radio.”
Michelle is a graduate of New York University’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, where she was the recipient of the Tisch Achievement Award.
