Willow Green is a choreographer, performance artist, and writer based in Brooklyn. Originally from the foothills of North Carolina, they studied Dance and Creative Writing at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. This dual study at Kenyon nurtured the foundation of their choreographic voice, which often explores horror cinematography and gothic aesthetics in juxtaposition with soft, intimate moments and text-based soundscapes. In 2022-23, Willow was granted a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship based in Jaffa, where they also premiered a solo with support from Machol Shalem’s Choreographic Incubator. Further expanding on their obsession with transformation through improvisation, they studied butoh intensively with Tiziana Longo in 2024. In addition to their movement practice, they are a dedicated dance scholar, and their current research is in close collaboration with their mentor, Julie Brodie. Julie and Willow are in the process of publishing a biography about the life and legacy of Maggie Patton, the founder of Kenyon College’s Dance program, with the University of Akron Press. Willow has presented research at multiple International Council for Kinetography Laban conferences, and their choreography has been performed at Dixon Place, Salon Dreiklang, MASH, Kelim, Arts on Site, MOtiVE, and the 2021 Jacob’s Pillow Staff/Intern Show. They have also had the honor of performing for artists including Chaesong Kim, Mattie McGarey, Okwui Okpokwasili, Tiziana Longo, and James Graham.
